Nathan Redmon, Man of Resilience
Former cab driver Nathan Redmon emigrated to Canada shortly before the First World War in search of a better future for his family. Finding work as a railway porter, he and his wife went on to found the first Black-owned trucking and cartage company in Toronto in the 1930s. Join Redmon’s granddaughter Bernice Carnegie to hear the inspirational story of Nathan Redmon’s life and work.
This online talk will take place over Zoom and is part of the Canadian Automotive Museum's Third Thursday lecture series. These online talks are free and open to the public, but registration is required. The Canadian Automotive Museum is a registered Canadian charity and a suggested donation of $10 goes toward covering the cost of hosting these virtual events. Donors who make an annual contribution of over $25 will receive a charitable tax receipt.

Bernice Carnegie, granddaughter of Nathan Redmon, is an award-winning international speaker, storyteller and author. As her family’s historian, she recounts stories of her family’s immigration and century-long experience in Canada. Bernice’s presentations motivate audiences of all ages to reflect on how her family’s journey can inspire their own personal and professional growth.
